Coursera and Microsoft offer new certificates with scholarships to boost career skills
Coursera, in partnership with Microsoft, has announced the introduction of four new entry-level Professional Certificates.
These programmes aim to equip learners with the necessary skills for careers expected to grow significantly in the coming decade. Designed to be accessible without a university degree or prior work experience.
The new certificates include:
IT Support Specialist Professional Certificate: This programme provides comprehensive skills for IT support, covering data backup, cloud computing, and mobile device management. It is available now.
Cloud Support Associate Professional Certificate: Focused on Microsoft Azure solutions, this certificate teaches cloud resource management, cloud security management, and cost optimisation. It is available now.
Business Analyst Professional Certificate: The first of its kind on Coursera, this programme offers skills in business, technology, and data science, including strategic decision-making and process modelling. It is available now.
Project Manager Professional Certificate: Addressing the increasing demand for project management roles, this programme covers Microsoft Projects for planning and scheduling, and offers a deep understanding of project management principles and tools. It will launch this summer and is available now for pre-enrolment.
The new certificates are part of Microsoft’s expanded offering on Coursera, which now includes ten entry-level Professional Certificates. They have already attracted over 600,000 learners globally. The new certificates also feature lessons specific to generative AI within the Microsoft 365 product suite, along with hands-on projects to prepare learners for Microsoft certification exams.
Marni Baker Stein, Coursera’s Chief Content Officer said about the partnership:
"We’re excited that Microsoft is expanding its portfolio on Coursera as part of our shared efforts to increase equitable access to digital skilling opportunities.
“This collaboration will empower individuals globally, particularly those aspiring to break into the tech industry, with critical skills to thrive in today's digital economy.”
In response to the growing demand for skills in Microsoft cloud, AI, and cybersecurity, Coursera and Microsoft, in collaboration with Women in Cloud, have introduced the Universal Access to Microsoft Skills Scholarship.
The initiative will provide 5,000 recipients access to all Microsoft Specialisations and Professional Certificates on Coursera, valued at $6000 per recipient. Successful completion of a full Professional Certificate through this scholarship will also grant a complimentary voucher for the Microsoft certification exam. The scholarships aim to prioritise women and marginalised communities, and applications are open now.
Elisa Graceffo, General Manager of Worldwide Learning Technical Content at Microsoft stated:
"Our collaboration with Coursera provides more options for learners to start or switch their careers by making these courses and skills accessible for people of all backgrounds.
“These programmes are a testament to Microsoft's commitment to providing learners with the skills that not just enhance their careers but also fill skill gaps in the industry."
