Camp Invention unveils Illuminate 2024: A STEM adventure for young minds

Camp Invention, part of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in the US since 1990, has announced the rollout of its 2024 Illuminate programme.

The programme aims to enhance participants' problem-solving abilities and confidence through STEM-based activities.

Illuminate integrates STEM education and introduces young learners to intellectual property principles. The programme is designed to provide children with engaging, hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Each year, a new curriculum is developed. This year’s includes empowering campers to invent their own sports ball, craft a custom game board, delve into the properties of light, address global water issues, and step into the role of game show contestants, where their prototyping skills are put to the test.

Each curriculum is inspired by inventors from the National Inventors Hall of Fame and includes several educational components:

  • Let's Glow™ focuses on the science of light and allows participants to create a personalised Glow Box to understand different aspects of light and design.

  • Prototyping Studio™ challenges children to transform ideas into inventions through a series of prototyping activities.

  • In the Game™ encourages campers to design a game board and sports ball, teaching them about design processes, branding, and recognition for creativity.

  • Operation: HydroDrop™ tasks participants with addressing water-related challenges, promoting problem-solving for environmental sustainability.

This year's programme is part of a legacy that has reached over 382,000 PreK-8 students and more than 10,000 high school students. Overall, Camp Invention has impacted 3.3 million children, educators, college students, and inventors, including over 289,000 under-served children. Camp Invention programmes are accessible across America.
