Osprey Charging Uses AI to Showcase children's future environmental visions

Osprey Charging, a public EV rapid-charging network in the UK, recently conducted an experiment involving children aged 7-14 to visualise their ideas about the future using AI technology.

The project aimed to understand children's perceptions of the future and was realised through AI-generated images based on their descriptions.

In the experiment, children were asked to describe their expectations and hopes for the future. Initially, they envisioned a future marked by significant technological advancements and a strong sense of community.

However, their descriptions also included concerns about environmental degradation, resulting in AI-generated images showing polluted skies, artificial greenery, and health issues related to fossil fuel use and carbon emissions.

Conversely, when asked to describe their ideal future, the children imagined vibrant natural landscapes, clean skies, and advanced, eco-friendly technology. The AI-generated images of these optimistic visions depicted lush greenery, clear air, and innovative transportation systems, reflecting a hopeful outlook for a sustainable future.

Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, commented on the insights gained from the project:

“It has been incredibly eye-opening and insightful to hear the thoughts, hopes and fears of our next generation on what they believe lies in store for our society and environment, and the stark visualisation using AI generated images cements the need for action to be taken to support the move to net zero. Here at Osprey Charging, we’re continuing to be at the forefront of this transition, installing increasing numbers of public EV chargers across the UK, with over 1,000 rapid chargers now available on the Osprey network, in a range of accessible rural and urban locations.

“This experiment and the engaging input from each child that participated highlighted the necessity for both businesses and individuals to continuously strive for greater green and sustainable practices, something which we pride ourselves on. Through installing charging infrastructure, powered by renewable energy, from Land’s End to John O’Groats and across Great Britain, we are providing the critical infrastructure that is supporting the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.”

Osprey Charging's network has achieved a 99% reliability rate and has received multiple accolades, including 'Charging Network of the Year' at the Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards and 'Best EV Charging Network' at the Transport and Energy Awards.

Zap-Map also recognised Osprey as a ‘Driver Recommended Network’ for the fourth consecutive year.Osprey Charging, with over 1,000 rapid EV chargers across the UK, offers reliable charging points powered by renewable electricity.
