Inaugural UAE schools summit by PowerSchool discusses AI's role in education

PowerSchool, organised the inaugural Innovation in Education: UAE Schools Summit at Dunecrest American School in Dubai on 13th March.

The event, conducted in partnership with Esol Education, a company specialising in K-12 international education, brought together educators and school leaders from across the United Arab Emirates to discuss the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

The summit aimed to serve as an annual platform for discussions on AI and innovation in the educational sector. Topics included security, data access, responsible use of AI, and the implications of AI for personalised education and workforce preparation.

A significant portion of the summit involved presenting survey results regarding the application and challenges of AI-based EdTech in UAE schools. The survey identified student behaviour management as a significant concern, with 70% of respondents marking it as a key challenge. It highlighted the need for guidance on implementing AI tools and navigating technological educational challenges.

The survey also revealed a demand for more direction from educational and industry leaders on the ethical and responsible deployment of AI technologies in schools. Concerns about data privacy, security, and the integration of AI with existing educational systems were highlighted as significant issues.

Shivani Stumpf, Chief Product Officer at PowerSchool, stated, "Empowering educators and students to reach their full potential through leveraging AI capabilities lies at the heart of our mission at PowerSchool."

The summit featured discussions on various aspects of AI in education, including the potential benefits of personalised learning experiences and the importance of data centralisation for educators.

Dr. Joseph Nettikaden, Chief Information Officer at Esol Education, commented, "AI-powered analytics are poised to revolutionise the process of measuring and influencing student achievement, allowing us to determine what makes the greatest impact, and empowering students to work towards their desired future outcomes."
