GUHSD's digital transformation with HPE GreenLake enhances educational infrastructure

Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) in the San Diego area, known for its century-long tradition in pioneering educational experiences, is adopting a new approach to digital transformation by utilising the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud portfolio from Hewlett Packard Enterprise

This initiative aims to update the district's digital infrastructure, with the goal of improving educational tools and resources for its 17,000 students and providing more efficient technological support for teachers and administrators.

Facing budget limitations in public education and rising demands for data-intensive technologies in classrooms and administration, GUHSD's shift to a simplified, scalable private cloud solution offers a cost-predictable strategy to address these issues. The district's effort is directed at providing students, educators, and staff with essential technological tools to support contemporary educational needs.

Rick Roberts, the Executive Director of Educational Technology Services at GUHSD, says: "Readying students to be successful, whether at college or in careers, requires supporting our teachers and administrators with innovative technologies that drive creativity and connection in the classroom. Our HPE GreenLake deployment ensures we have the modern technology infrastructure we need for meeting new demands while also keeping budgets and headcount manageable."

GUHSD, located in eastern San Diego County, operates 15 college-like campuses and employs approximately 3,000 staff. As an early adopter of 1:1 computing, the district has experienced a significant increase in the use of on-premises applications, making the transition to a private cloud a logical choice.

The HPE GreenLake platform allows GUHSD to host critical applications such as PowerSchool Business Plus and Tableau in a secure, private cloud managed by HPE, freeing up IT staff to focus on other key areas.

Alexia Clements, Vice President of Worldwide Hybrid Cloud Solution Sales at HPE, spoke about the long-standing relationship with GUHSD: “We’re proud of our 20-year relationship with GUHSD that has assisted generations of students with gaining the proficiencies for future success. With HPE GreenLake, we’re providing a private cloud to transform the entire educational experience while ensuring the district continues to be good stewards of taxpayer funds.”

The HPE GreenLake deployment at GUHSD encompasses various solutions such as HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition for self-managed private cloud, HPE Alletra Storage, HPE ProLiant servers, and HPE Aruba Networking's intelligent edge solutions. This infrastructure aims to provide secure and efficient cloud services at a predictable cost, transitioning from capital expenditure to an operational expense model for better financial management.

Roberts concludes: "With HPE GreenLake at the heart of our technology infrastructure, we’ve eliminated the conventional process of asking voters to approve large IT expenditures when our systems are already obsolete. Instead, we gain an advanced, continuously updated private cloud solution that is flexible and scalable, at a predictable cost."
