ACVIM unveils EdTech-driven mentorship programme with MentorVet and Chewy Health

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) has announced a partnership with MentorVet, supported by Chewy Health, to launch a mentorship program titled MentorVet Lead for New Diplomates.

The initiative, funded by Chewy Health, is designed to assist ACVIM Diplomates who have achieved Board certification within the last five years by providing them with peer support, coaching, and mentorship.

The six-month programme will include online learning modules covering a range of professional skills, including stress management, leadership, mentorship, team building, and budgeting. Participants are also expected to engage in monthly virtual meetings to discuss the modules and share professional experiences.

The programme also offers access to individualised mental health and financial coaching, as well as the opportunity for one-on-one mentorship with experienced ACVIM Diplomates.

This mentorship programme is a collaborative effort among ACVIM, Chewy Health, and MentorVet.

ACVIM is a certifying organisation for veterinary specialists dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine through education, certification, and public awareness. MentorVet utilises evidence-based approaches to support veterinary professionals in their careers. Chewy Health focuses on addressing veterinary care challenges and evolving pet parent needs with digital solutions.

It aims to address the needs of new ACVIM Diplomates by providing support beyond clinical knowledge. The programme was developed in response to the identified need for additional support for veterinarians in their mid-career phase.

Sarah Gillings, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology), President of the ACVIM Board of Regents, highlighted the programme's alignment with ACVIM's goals, stating:

"We are excited to partner with MentorVet to expand access to mentorship and educational opportunities in veterinary specialty medicine. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to advance the practice of veterinary specialty medicine and support the next generation of veterinary professionals beyond their clinical knowledge.”

Chewy Health has committed to sponsoring the development of the MentorVet Lead programme and providing scholarships for participants. Mita Malhotra, President of Chewy Health, said, "We are thrilled to be expanding our ongoing partnership with MentorVet to support the unique mentorship and well-being of ACVIM specialists."

The pilot programme will begin on March 25, 2024, and conclude on September 15, 2024. Plans for a second cohort in fall 2024 are underway, as the partnership aims to continue supporting veterinary professionals.

Malhotra emphasised the partnership's importance, saying, "These critical tools will help our participants take care of themselves while delivering the highest-quality medicine for their patients."
