Thinking Nation launches AI-Powered mock AP exams to boost high school exam prep

Thinking Nation, an American charitable organisation specialising in social studies education, has introduced a platform offering AI-powered mock Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The platform, which aims to prepare high school students for upcoming AP exams, seeks to provide equitable access to preparatory materials across the United States.

This initiative includes subjects such as AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP World History, and AP American Government and Politics, matching the content and format of the official AP exams.

The platform allows students to submit their responses and receive AI-generated feedback identifying areas needing improvement. It also supports teachers by supplying data to fine-tune teaching strategies before the exams and helps students become familiar with the exam format.

Zachary Cote, Executive Director of Thinking Nation, commented on the platform's design and purpose, stating, “We have harnessed the power of generative AI to give instant and precise feedback on a fully aligned AP exam that teachers and students can use in their final sprint of studying before the May exams.

“Students receive detailed data reports aligned to the various subcategories of each exam section, so they are empowered with the data necessary for success on the actual exam.”

The mock exams were developed collaboratively by AP educators and graders to ensure alignment with the College Board's guidelines and to accurately reflect the structure and standards of the AP exams.

Dr. William Pulgarin, a board member of Thinking Nation and principal of Columbus School, said: “As a former AP U.S. History teacher, I spent hours providing feedback to students on their practice exams. These new AI-graded Mock AP exams by Thinking Nation will transform how we can support students by shifting the workload from grading exams to supporting the students directly with their feedback. It’s a game changer!"

Available through school subscriptions, the platform simplifies the process for teachers to assign exams and for students to submit and review their work. Instant feedback facilitates immediate adjustments to study and teaching approaches.

Carlo Aaron Purther, an AP Government and AP European History teacher, shared his experience: “I receive immediate data that helps me target what my students need help with prior to the AP exam.”
