Studenac Launches 'Groundwater, Guardian of Life' Conservation Campaign

Studenac, a retail chain in Croatia, has initiated a groundwater conservation campaign titled "Groundwater, Guardian of Life." The campaign, which aligns with World Water Day, was launched to raise awareness about preserving groundwater resources.

It includes activities such as river cleanup and educational programmes, starting with an event at the Aquatika Aquarium in Karlovac. The event featured discussions on protecting drinking water, biodiversity, and the role of community involvement in preventing groundwater pollution and overuse.

In addition to this initiative, Studenac has been involved in environmental projects under its "One Step Closer to Nature" programme. The program focuses on cleaning the Adriatic Sea's floor and enhancing urban biodiversity by installing birdhouses in Zagreb. The company also supports sustainable development efforts, including assistance to family farmers in Slavonia.

Miranda Mladin, Studenac’s Marketing Director, emphasised the campaign's approach: "“Guardian of Life is built around both education and engagement. We show people the importance of groundwater resources but we don’t stop there – we also provide hands-on opportunities for them to protect and improve the groundwater resources in their local communities.””

The "Guardian of Life" website offers information on groundwater importance, conservation tips, and details about upcoming conservation activities. The campaign launch included an educational quiz for students in Karlovac, engaging them in the conversation about water conservation.

The launch event featured a quiz for fifth- and sixth-grade students from Karlovac, helped by the Ekoznalci, the mascots of Studenac’s One Step Closer to Nature initiative.

The campaign collaborates with Croatia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Karlovac County, the City of Karlovac, and the Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute. It contributes to the objectives of World Water Day, established by the United Nations, to increase awareness of the need for sustainable groundwater usage and its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
