Southampton's brightest innovators to shine at Future Worlds Demo Day

The University of Southampton is set to highlight the innovative capabilities of its latest tech startups at the Future Worlds Demo Day on 12th June.

The event, part of London Tech Week, provides a platform for the University’s most promising startups to present their ventures, pitch ideas to investors, and reveal cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to make a global impact.

Future Worlds is the startup accelerator at the University of Southampton, focused on assisting entrepreneurs in transforming their ideas into viable businesses. The programme provides mentorship, funding, and access to a global network of investors to support the development and growth of startups in various technology sectors.

Three recent alumni have been recognised in Forbes 30 Under 30, reflecting the accelerator's track record of nurturing successful enterprises.

The Demo Day will feature pitches from seven startups developed through the Future Worlds Cohort, an intensive programme designed to accelerate their growth. These startups include:

  • POM Health: A FemTech device provides women with real-time, continuous hormone monitoring. The aim is to create a minimally invasive monitor that delivers accurate hormonal data around the clock.

  • Carbon GPT: An AI-driven, cloud-based carbon management platform for organisations, especially those required to disclose carbon emissions.

  • Meta Futura Aerospace: A novel Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) for small satellites, offering a compliant thrust vectoring system that reduces weight, volume, and costs in the satellite industry.

  • Smith Optical: A new display technology aimed at creating transparent AR glasses that are bright enough for sunlight and capable of true 3D.

  • SoLead Energy: A grid-scale battery designed to support the transition to net zero. It offers a safe, affordable, and recyclable solution for large-scale energy storage.

  • Zenicam: Software that monitors health by measuring vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, and respiration rate, as well as assessing pain and stress levels, using only a video of the patient's face.

  • ViridoCO2: A patented technology that transforms carbon dioxide into high-value chemical intermediates, enabling manufacturers to use CO2 to produce chemical products and replace traditional petrochemicals.

The Future Worlds Demo Day will allow investors to get an early look at these promising startups and their innovative solutions. This event underscores the University of Southampton's commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and technological advancement.

Ben Clark, Director of Future Worlds at the University of Southampton, stated:

“Future Worlds supports the next generation of talent. Our founders go on not only to gain millions of pounds of investment but to win awards, solve enormous problems and change lives for the better through their innovations.

“These founders are addressing the biggest challenges we are facing today; they are bold, creative and determined to make their businesses a massive success, so we are very proud to help them on their journey.”
