Strategic partnership between Duke CE and CGI to equip future board members with essential governance skills

Duke Corporate Education (Duke CE) and the Corporate Governance Institute (CGI) have launched a new strategic partnership to equip the next generation of board members with essential governance skills.

The initiative introduces the Certified Corporate Governance Institute Professional course, designed to meet contemporary governance standards.

This collaboration aims to create a platform for directors to navigate increasingly stringent global governance standards. Duke CE, a leader in custom executive education, and CGI, a prominent entity in corporate governance education, bring together their expertise to offer this new qualification.

Duke CE is known for its executive education programmes tailored to the needs of organisations globally. CGI, recognised for its accredited governance programmes, supports board members in gaining the necessary skills to excel.

Sharmla Chetty, CEO of Duke Corporate Education, stated about the partnership:

“We are thrilled to partner with the Corporate Governance Institute to deliver a programme that addresses the evolving needs of today’s business environment.

“By combining our strengths, we are uniquely positioned to equip board members with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the complexities of modern governance.”

The collaboration comes at a crucial time, following the implementation of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act of 2023 in the UK and the Corporate Transparency Act of 2021 in the USA.

These acts require directors to adhere to new and higher standards. Additionally, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) introduces harmonised standards, with new reporting obligations phased in between the fiscal years 2024 and 2026, depending on the company's size.

The first initiative under this partnership is the Certificate in Corporate Governance. The new programme will be delivered through interactive live sessions led by Duke CE’s educators, leveraging CGI’s expertise in corporate governance.

Ciaran Bollard, CEO of the Corporate Governance Institute, said of the project:

“Our partnership with Duke CE represents a significant step forward in our mission to set the standard for governance education and certification for board members. The Certified Corporate Governance Institute Professional Certificate course will give aspiring and existing board members a globally recognised qualification.”
