Motorola Solutions to acquire Theatro, expanding AI safety tools for education and frontline Workers
Motorola Solutions has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Theatro Labs, a Texas-based company specializing in AI and voice-powered communication and workflow solutions for frontline workers, including those in educational settings.
The acquisition will integrate Theatro’s software-as-a-service platform into Motorola Solutions’ portfolio, enhancing safety and productivity tools for diverse industries.
AI tools for efficiency and safety
Theatro’s platform uses a wearable device and an AI voice assistant to streamline frontline tasks. Workers can check inventory, assist customers, and communicate with team members through conversational commands.
The system also enables employees to discreetly alert security or management during unsafe situations, with step-by-step response protocols provided by the AI assistant. Integration with video security cameras enhances threat detection and response.
Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Motorola Solutions, said:
“Theatro is designed to prioritize both safety and operational efficiency, which are essential for all frontline workers. With Theatro, we are continuing to invest in innovative technologies that purposefully apply AI to protect employees while automating how they work and improving their service to customers.”
Expanding impact across sectors
While Theatro currently serves prominent U.S. retailers, the acquisition broadens its reach to include education, healthcare, hospitality, and manufacturing. Motorola Solutions plans to combine Theatro’s technology with its existing tools, such as body cameras, panic buttons, and radios, to provide integrated safety and productivity solutions.
Chris Todd, president and CEO of Theatro, emphasized:
“For more than a decade, we have been passionate about innovating for frontline workers. We’re thrilled to be joining Motorola Solutions to enable even more capabilities that help team members remain safe while delivering their best work every day.”
